Urban Regeneration Strategy
The Middlesbrough Urban Regeneration Strategy (URS) sets out the main aspirations for the physical regeneration of the town. It is a visionary document that identifies the key directions and priorities for future development.
The URS is presented under six themes:
- competitive business infrastructure
- revitalising the housing market
- a 21st century retail/leisure centre
- a regional centre for culture and education
- connecting Middlesbrough and
- creating a 21st centre environment
The URS also looks at how these themes come together in six areas of the town in which there is a major regeneration focus:
- Greater Middlehaven
- Cultural quarter
- Linthorpe Road/University
- Western Gateway
- Stockton Middlesbrough Initiative (SMI) and
- Greater Hemlington.
