Middlesbrough Local History Month 2011

Throughout May Middlesbrough Libraries will be offering you a rich and varied programme of events, displays and talks.

Highlights include a Transporter Bridge Centenary exhibition, fabulous walks, 'Votes for Women' a talk and demonstration by the talented people from History Wardrobe and 'Cook on the Catwalk' a very special costume parade taking place during Middlesbrough Fashion Week.

Most events are free. There is a small charge or limited availability for some events  which require tickets and/or pre-booking please see notes below.

Exhibitions, performances, workshops, walks and more

"Transported through time" an exhibition of images of the Transporter Bridge

Hatch, match and dispatch: a display of the work of the Middlesbrough registrars

Ironopolis singers

Wednesday 4th May at  Reference Library, 7.30pm - tickets free

Writers Workshop led by Sue Gordon

Friday 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th May at Where Easterside Library

Perspectives on the Transporter: researching the lives of contemporaries

Monday 9th, 16th and 23rd May at Reference Library, 2-4pm (Limited places for this event)

Clerihew writing workshop led by Khadim Hussain

Wednesday 11th May at Reference/Central Library, 2pm

"Of mines and men" a walk along Spencerbeck and up to Eston Hills

Saturday 15th May at Thorntree Park, 10.30am-2pm
Note Numbers limited pre-booking required

"Votes for women" a talk and demonstration by the History Wardrobe

Thursday 19th May at  Reference Library, 7-9pm - tickets £5 each and available now.

Family History drop-in session

Tuesday 24th May at  Reference Library, 2-4pm

History Hike; a walk along Middle Beck and Ormesby Beck

Thursday 26th May - Meet at Soutlands Centre, 10am-3pm

"Cook on the Catwalk" Costume in the age of Captain Cook a Fashion Week special event

Thursday 26th May at Reference Library, 7.30pm - Tickets £3 each

Writers' open mic event

Thursday 2nd June at  Reference Library, 6pm
