Mowbray kicks off pharmacy celebration

Boro manager Tony Mowbray kicked off the festivities when an award-winning Middlesbrough pharmacy held its 50th anniversary celebration.
Mowbray was joined by Middlesbrough South MP Tom Blenkinsop and former Boro star Alan Peacock when Marton Pharmacy celebrated 50 years in business.
To mark the achievement, the pharmacy held a free community event featuring a signing session by Mowbray, music from top local band The Beer Pigs, BBC Tees radio presenter John Foster, children’s face-painting and a bouncy castle.
A charity raffle raised more than £200 in aid of South Cleveland Heart Fund at the event, which attracted 500 visitors.
Launched as FI Maguire Ltd in 1961 by Frank Maguire, the father of present-day managing director Mike, the Stokesley Road-based pharmacy now boasts The Therapy Centre, a thriving business offering a range of Holistic Treatments.
Visitors to the event were able to enjoy free relaxing mini-massages, together with complimentary Dermalogica Face-Mapping skin analysis – and first in the queue were Boro heroes Mowbray and Peacock!
The Boro boss said: “As much I enjoyed the massage at what are very impressive facilities, it was just great to be among the people I call my own.
“Teesside is all about the community so it was great to go along to Marton Pharmacy to see a business supporting its community and the community, in turn, supporting the business.”
The community event also saw The Therapy Centre launch its new partnership with Crathorne Hall Hotel and a new range of Dermalogica Skin Treatments. The Therapy Centre is offering its range of Holistic Therapies to guests at the AA 4 red stars hotel.
For a limited period only, the Therapy Centre is offering a free back, neck and shoulder massage worth £19 for anyone who is also celebrating their 50th year.
Managing director Mike Maguire was winner of the national Community Pharmacist of the Year award in 2009 and a Middlesbrough Mayor’s Award for services to the community earlier this year.
“When there are so many household business names going under in this difficult economic climate, it’s a proud achievement that our independent, family-run pharmacy is not only celebrating 50 years but thriving too.
“With the various awards we’ve won, we have a very high profile nationally as well as locally, so we’re punching well above our weight.
“It’s a very competitive market but part of our progression is developing into new areas, so our partnership with Crathorne Hall Hotel is both innovative and important.”
