Sport Relief Mile hits Middlesbrough

Passers-by will have to look twice if they are strolling through Middlesbrough’s Albert Park on Sunday, March 25.
For a host of runners in fancy, and not-so-fancy, dress will be completing the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile to raise money for great causes.
Sport Relief, which this year runs from Friday, March 23 to Sunday, March 25, is one of the UK’s biggest fundraising events and encourages people across the UK to get active, raise cash and change lives.
It is backed by stars on the BBC including Fearne Cotton, Dermot O’Leary and David Tennant.
The Albert Park event features runs of one, three and six miles in length and the emphasis is on having a fun day and raising money.
There will be live entertainment from the bandstand throughout the event.
The children’s play areas, boating lake, tennis courts, roller skating rink and face painting will also be available making the Middlesbrough Mile an ideal family day out.
Every runner will receive a Sport Relief medal and all the money raised will help change the lives of people in need in the UK and in some the world’s poorest countries.
Councillor Brenda Thompson, Middlesbrough Council’s Executive Member for Public Health and Sport, said: “Sport Relief is a hugely enjoyable event for people of all ages and abilities.
“Whether you want to take part in fancy dress or beat your best time it’s all about taking part, enjoying it and raising money for good causes.
“The people of Middlesbrough have been strong supporters of Sport Relief in the past and I’m sure this year will be no different.”
Entrance is limited to 1,500 participants.
