Census help events

A series of help events is being held across Middlesbrough to help people fill in the 2011 Census form.
Sunday, March 27 is officially Census Day and most people are expected to complete their form either on the day or very shortly afterwards.
The aim of the Census is to create as accurate a snapshot as possible of the entire population of the United Kingdom on that day.
However some people may have problems completing the lengthy form – either on paper or online - and may want advice on how to ensure they provide the correct information.
From Monday, March 28, Census help events will be held at venues across the town. Residents are welcome to drop in to any of these sessions with their census forms, and receive help and assistance.
The Census has been carried out every ten years since 1801 to collect vital information on the population, with the information remaining confidential for 100 years.
Ian Parker, Middlesbrough Council’s Chief Executive, said: “It is very important that everyone completes their Census questionnaire.
“The money that the council gets from the government to pay for services is directly linked to the figures that come from the Census.
“Services such as schools, healthcare, housing and transport are directly affected by the information gathered by the Census figures – filling in and returning the forms will ensure the right services are delivered to meet the needs of local areas.”
Those preferring to complete the questionnaire online should visit www.census.gov.uk, enter the code shown on your Census form and follow the instructions provided.
For further information and help completing the Census questionnaire, call the Census helpline on 0300 0201 101 or visit the website.
