Chris Tomlinson - The English long jumper was born in Middlesbrough and began his career competing for Middlesbrough AC at the age of 10. He attended Nunthorpe Secondary School and to this day holds many of its year group records for triple and long jump, in 2002, former Nunthorpe pupil Chris broke a Lynn Davies' 34-year-old British long jump record, a record he increased and held until 2009. He is also a huge Middlesbrough Football Club supporter.
Johanna Jackson - Middlesbrough-born race walker Jo Jackson is Britain’s No 1 race walker. Received a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games and is the first British Woman to win a major international walking title. Her local club is the Middlesbrough and Cleveland and Redcar Race Walking Club and she attended Teesside University to study creative, digital animation.
BILLIARDS
Peter Gilchrist - The 1994 World billiards champion attended Linthorpe Juniors and Boynton School.
Mike Russell - Four times the world billiards champion, he was born in Middlesbrough and raised in Marske.
BOXING
Cornelius Carr - Grangetown-born boxer who became Teesside's first ever world champion winning the WBF middleweight crown at Thornaby Pavilion in 1999.
Daniel Phillips - Lightweight Daniel Phillips from Middlesbrough recently won a bronze medal in the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
Paul Truscott - Professional boxer from Middlesbrough who became the Commonwealth featherweight boxing champion in 2008, after declaring "I've shown that you achieve things and be someone when you come from Middlesbrough."
Simon Vallily - Middlesbrough-born heavyweight won the gold medal for England in the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
CRICKET
Bill Athey - Talented England test cricketer who also represented Yorkshire, Gloucestershire and Sussex, achieving 25,000 first class runs.
Chris Old - Cricketer Chris played in 46 England test matches between 1972 and 1981, also captaining Yorkshire during 16 years playing for his county. He is the brother of talented rugby union and cricket player Alan Old.
Christopher Liddle - Middlesbrough-born cricket player who signed with Sussex in 2006.

Harry Makepeace - Born in Middlesbrough in 1881, he achieved a sporting achievement that is unlikely ever to be equalled. He is the only man ever to win an FA Cup winner's medal, a League championship medal, be capped as an England football international, win a County championship medal and be capped as a cricket international too .
Liam Plunkett - Born in Nunthorpe in 1985, Liam plays cricket for Durham and has also represented England in several test matches.
CYCLING
Chris Newton - Born in Middlesbrough and an alumnus of Teesside University, Chris is a successful road and track racing cyclist, a multiple world champion and Olympian.
David Daniell - Competitive cyclist specialising in track sprinting, a member of the British Cycling Olympic Academy and Junior World Team Sprint Champion (2006, 2007). Daniell, who was on the shortlist for the BBC's Young Sports Personality of the Year in 2006, now has his sights set on winning gold in 2012.
FOOTBALL
Adrian Bevington - Managing director of Club England, who has never forgotten his Middlesbrough roots. Adrian first joined The FA as a press officer in November 1997 and became Head of Media Relations in April 2003.
In addition to managing the media team of the third most quoted organisation in the UK, Adrian was also been responsible for the whole Communications Division from August 2004 to August 2010.
Prior to joining the FA, he was a trainee reporter with ICI’s company newspaper and Senior Publications Officer at Middlesbrough Football Club.
Brian Clough - Brian Clough was an English footballer and manager. He made his league debut with Middlesbrough in 1955. As a manager, he is noted for his success with Derby County and Nottingham Forest, and his 44 day reign at Leeds United A.F.C.
Charismatic, outspoken, and often controversial, Clough is widely considered to be one of the greatest managers of the game and in 1991 he was awarded the O.B.E.
Chris Kamara - Now best known for his role as a presenter and football analyst on Sky Sports, Kamara was a school friend of Boro Chairman Steve Gibson before enjoying a 20-year playing career that briefly took in Middlesbrough.
Happy to try anything for a laugh, prior to the 2010 World Cup he has changed his surname to Cabanga, an African word meaning ‘to think’ or ‘imagine’ as part of a fan campaign to help England in the World Cup.
Don Revie - He never played for or managed his hometown club but Revie achieved fame in footbal. He scored four goals in six games for England, was Football Writers' Footballer of the Year in 1955 and won an FA Cup winners' medal with Manchester City a year later. He was manager of Leeds United for 13 years - winning two league titles, the FA Cup and two Fairs Cup trophies - before a three-year spell in charge of England.
Harold Shepherdson MBE - A former pupil of Marton Grove and Hugh Bell schools, 'Shep' was England's trainer at four World Cup tournaments including the 1966 World Cup winner, while also serving Middlesbrough in different capacities for more than half a century.

Stewart Downing - Only the great Wilf Mannion won more England caps as a Middlesbrough player than Stewart. Raised in Pallister Park, the left-winger won 23 England caps before a £12 million move to Aston Villa, helping Boro reach the 2006 UEFA Cup final.
Wilf Mannion - Born in South Bank, capped 26 times by England, he is regarded as one of Middlesbrough's greatest ever players, and along with George Hardwick, he is commemorated by a statue outside the Riverside Stadium in Middlesbrough.
FORMULA ONE RACING
Rob Smedley - Rob Smedley, originally from Normanby in Middlesbrough, now lives in Italy working for Ferrari as Felipe Massa’s Formula 1 race engineer.
He has recently said ‘One word sums up Middlesbrough for me ‘home’. I travel all around the world but Middlesbrough is home.’

Kimberley Crooks - Professional golfer on the Ladies European Tour (LET) and LET Access Tour who is proud to be from Middlesbrough.
RUGBY
Alan Old - Played rugby union for England and the British Lions between 1972 and 1978. He also played first class cricket for Yorkshire and Warwickshire. Alan is the brother of former England fast bowler Chris Old.
Rory Underwood MBE - Born in Middlesbrough, Rory is a former England and British Lions rugby union player as well as a former Royal Air Force pilot. He first laced up his rugby boots at Middlesbrough Rugby Club.

SWIMMING
Aimee Willmott - Boro-born swimmer, Aimee Willmott, aspires to follow in her father Stuart’s footsteps. He represented Team GB at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. At the British Championships earlier this year as she claimed silver in both the 200m and 400m individual medleys.
Jack Hatfield - Though born in Great Ayton, as his parents had a holiday cottage there, Jack Hatfield was Middlesbrough through and through. He was raised in Middlesbrough and, as a superb swimmer, represented the town in style when winning two silver medals and a bronze at the 1912 Olympics in Sweden. He also set four world swimming records and took part in three further Olympic Games. Jack often trained in the River Tees, Smith's Dock and even Albert Park lake.
Table Tennis
Paul Drinkhall - Born in Loftus, the British No.1 and Triple European Champion. Received a silver medal in the table-tennis team event and bronze in the mixed doubles at the Commonwealth Games in 2010.

Danny Reed - Brought home a silver medal with team mate Paul Drinkhall. his local club is Ormesby Table Tennis Club.
Karina Lafevre - Talented table tennis player whose local club is Ormesby Table Tennis Club. She was a top competitor at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and came close to winning a bronze medal.
Alan Ransome - From Ormesby Table Tennis Club, Alan served as the technical delegate for the International Table Tennis Federation and also the chairman of the sport’s Commonwealth Federation at the Games.
TENNIS
Sarah Borwell - The current British number 1 in doubles, ranked 67 in the world (as of 24 May 2010) was born in Middlesbrough. She went to Nunthorpe School and was a regular player for the Schools boys football team. Jonathan Woodgate and Liam Plunkett were fellow students at the time.
