Bus in Middlesbrough

Stagecoach North East has developed its mobile ticketing technology even further, enabling passengers across Teesside to organise their travel in advance, with the introduction of weekly tickets via its mobile app.

The local bus operator is helping its customers get around Teesside with the launch of the new mobile weekly ticket, making planning their journeys even easier. Until recently, only day tickets could be purchased using the mobile application but developments in the app will now help passengers to plan ahead and save even more time.

Bus passengers can say goodbye to lost paper tickets and missed rides with the launch of mobile weekly tickets straight to their phone. They also don’t need to worry about change as they can pay safely and securely using a debit or credit card or PayPal and the tickets will be ready to use instantly on their phone. They can then simply activate the ticket when they are ready to board and show it to the driver.

Launched nationwide at the end of last year, the free Stagecoach bus app is available to all iPhone and Android smartphone users. The travel tool is simple to use and it provides travellers with journey planning, live bus times, the location of their nearest stop and mobile tickets all in one place.

Steve Walker, Managing Director, Stagecoach North East, said: “The introduction of weekly tickets is a demonstration of our commitment to make travelling around the region simpler, faster and more efficient. More and more people are looking for instant access to information and our app makes it very easy for passengers to find all the details they need to plan and book their next journey by bus.

"From buying tickets ahead of time, direct to their phone, to counting down the minutes until the next bus arrives at their stop, customers can now benefit even further from our developments in travel technology.”

Through the app, live running times allow users to track the status of their chosen route and they can also follow their progress while en route. Interactive maps combine with a smartphone's GPS capability to show users what bus routes are nearby. It also gives passengers information about their potential journey times and how much different ticket options will cost.

The Stagecoach Bus App is available free on the App Store (iPhone) and Google Play (Android).
