new bar tatu opens in middlesbrough on linthorpe road

A tattoo emblazoned Mohammed Ali? An inked-up Carrie Fisher?! These iconic stars of the screen are just two of the life sized, tattooed celebrities adorning the walls of Middlesbrough’s latest bar café.

The aptly named Tatu, located opposite Psyche in Linthorpe Road, is the sister venue of ground breaking tattoo studio and bar Skins & Needles. The original artwork of tattooed celebrities including David Bowie, Superman and Marilyn Monroe is just one jaw-dropping feature of the stunning interior.

Bare brick walls, reclaimed wood, industrial style lighting and banquette seating bring a touch of New York’s Greenwich Village straight to the heart of Middlesbrough. And there is service to match with a book-a-booth system that allows customers to reserve a table in advance.

Local Businessman Matthew Salvin (Director of Linthorpe Evolution) is the brains behind the new venture and he is delighted with the results. “We’ve had a great team of designers working on Tatu. We wanted something fresh for this area that would work just as well for coffee and cake during the day as rum cocktails and pizza slices at night and they’ve really come up with the goods,” says Matthew who also owns The Skins & Needles brand.

‘We opened earlier this month and the reaction has been phenomenal. Linthorpe Road is absolutely buzzing at the moment and we’ve been so busy that we’ve decided to introduce the book-a-booth system so that we’re not disappointing customers. We’re doing table service and drinks packages too and, even though we’ve been busy, it’s definitely worth popping in if you’re passing to see if we can squeeze you in.”

Tatu is open from 10am-4pm Monday to Thursday and 10am-11pm Friday and Saturday (with occasional special events) serving hot drinks and cakes, cocktails, craft beers and prosecco along with pizza by the slice to keep those hunger pangs at bay. Booths can be booked in advance by the hour (including for New Year’s Eve) via Facebook or Instagram @tatumiddlesbrough
