Ageing Better Middlesbrough has teamed up with Debenhams and the Hillstreet Centre to revamp its monthly get together for the over 50s at the Debenhams Café.

Now with free tea and coffee, quizzes and games the newly named Café Meet Up Cuppa Club takes place on Monday 4th June between 3pm and 4.30pm and then the first Monday of every month after that.

The session is held in Debenhams third floor café at the Hillstreet Centre in Middlesbrough town centre and everyone is welcome.

Hannah Warburton, Communications Manager at Ageing Better Middlesbrough, a National Lottery funded programme set up by the Big Lottery Fund, said: “We work hard to find ways to reduce loneliness and social isolation for Middlesbrough people who are aged 50 and over.

“Our aims with the Cuppa Club, and our other Café Meet Ups, is to bring people together in a safe and accessible place to have conversations, get out and about and hopefully make new friends.”

Peter Drabble, centre manager at Hillstreet Centre, said: “Since 28% of people who visit Hillstreet are over 65, many risk suffering from loneliness.

“As one of the primary shopping centres at the heart of the community, we’ve teamed up with Ageing Better Middlesbrough and Debenhams to try and bring people together in a safe, happy place.

“We wanted to provide our core demographic shopper with yet another reason to visit the centre and I am confident the events will be popular as we have got some great activities lined up.”

Ageing Better Middlesbrough has a diverse membership who receive regular newsletters and what’s on guides – helping people stay active and engaged with their community as they get older.

Other Café Meet Ups are held at Marks and Spencer Café, Hillstreet Centre every Tuesday from 2pm to 3.30pm, at Jean’s Kitchen, Dundas Arcade on the third Wednesday of the month from 10am to midday and Turtle Bay, Corporation Road on the fourth Thursday of the month from 4pm to 7pm.
