Highlights include free parking for the first two hours in some Council operated town centre car parks and great value monthly permits for just £32 in Zetland & Station Street Car Parks.

  1. This offer excludes privately operated car parks. Please see tariff boards at other car parks.
  2. Motorists parking free for 2 hours are still required to display a pay and display ticket. The ticket machine will issue a free ticket which will show the time of arrival and departure, only one free ticket per vehicle per day is permitted. No return on the same day.
  3. Middlehaven - As of Monday January 25 on street car parking charges in northern Middlehaven on Vulcan Street, Commercial Street, Lower East Street and Lower Feversham Street are charged at £1 all day. Take care as there are private car parks in operation in the area which may have different charges.
  4. Amber Street Car Parks (not on street parking on Amber Street) charge - £1.10 per hour up to a maximum of £6.60. Charges apply from January 25, 2016.

  1. Captain Cook Square and Zetland Multi-Storey Car Parks are closed at night. Their standard opening times are Monday-Saturday 7am-7.30pm and Sunday 8am-6pm. 
    The Zetland Multi-Storey Car Park will stay open until 11pm on nights where Middlesbrough have late matches (7:45pm kick off) at home, and 11:30pm for cup matches which go into extra time.
  2. All on street pay & display parking is free to use after 6pm Monday to Saturday and all day on Sundays. Other than Captain Cook Square and Zetland other Middlesbrough Council managed street-level/surface car parks are also free to use after 6pm.

  3. Long Stay season tickets are available for £46.50 for 1 month, £139.50 for 3 months, £279 for 6 months and £558 for 12 months in long stay car parks. See reduced rates for Zetland Multi-storey and Station street season tickets above.

  1. Parking at France Street is under management of Middlesbrough Council Monday-Friday 8am-6pm only. On weekends Middlesbrough Leisure Park is responsible for its operation and parking is free on a Saturday and Sunday.

Evening Parking for a night out

Great night out in MiddlesbroughAll on street pay & display parking is free to use after 6pm Monday to Saturday and all day on Sundays.

Other than Captain Cook Square and Zetland Multi-Storey other Middlesbrough Council managed car parks are surface facilities that are free and open for use after 6pm and before 8am.

Middlesbrough Leisure Park (near Cineworld) also provides free security patrolled parking for the cinema and restaurants there after 6pm up until 1am (even later if there's a big film playing!).

  3. There are just a few locations on Linthorpe Road where the pay & display parking areas become night time taxi ranks in the evening and are not available for parking. These locations are clearly marked.
  4. Civic Centre  car park is only available for use on weekends. It is limited stay on Saturdays and free to use on Sundays.

Parking for the disabled

The Council allows free parking without time limits in all its pay and display car parks for disabled badge holders. This provision applies to all spaces in all types of car parks (long, short and limited-stay) and not just in dedicated disabled bays (excluding private permit parking area on level 4a of the Captain Cook Square Car Park and level 6 which is also for private parking Monday to Friday). Dedicated disabled bays are provided in all the main Council car parks as well as on street close to all the major town centre destinations.

The only restriction is in marked reserved spaces.

Lorry and coach parking

The Council operates a pay and display lorry and coach park at Cannon Park (map reference 6). This facility has 12 spaces and is open 24 hours a day.

Parking charges apply Monday to Saturday 8.00am to 6.00pm and are as follows;

£.50 for 2 hours

£1 for up to 4 hours

£2 for over 4 hours, all day

Please note there are no toilet, washing or café facilities on this site.

Motorcycle parking

There is a dedicated motorcycle parking area on the ground floor of Captain Cook Square multi storey car park (map reference 1)

An area on the ground floor of the car park has been set aside and signed and laid out specifically for motorcycles only. Special motorcycle locking units have been installed with room for over 30 motorcycles and the area is monitored by the car park’s CCTV system and overlooked by the attendants cabin. Motorcyclists can use these facilities free of charge throughout the opening hours of the car park which are 7.00am until 7.30pm Monday to Saturday and 8.00am until 6.00pm on Sundays.

A number of other Council car parks also have motorcycle parking bays and these are shown on the town centre car parks map.

Cycle parking

Cyclists working in or visiting Middlesbrough town centre are advised to use the Middlesbrough Cycle Centre. Based in Middlesbrough Bus Station, in the heart of the town centre, it provides the following facilities to members; free secure indoor cycle parking spaces, showers, changing rooms, lockers and toilets, cycling information and guides. Membership is free.

Electric Vehicles

In the Zetland Car Park there are two bays available for Electric Car Charging on Level One. These are free to use for a 2-hour limit. In the  Captain Cook Square Car Park there are two bays available for Electric Car Charging on Lower Level 0. These are free to use for a 2-hour limit.(map reference 1)

The Cleveland Cente rooftop car park has over 600 car park spaces with dedicated disabled and parent and child bays. Lifts as well as stairwells, ensure ease of access into the centre for everybody. All 10 main town centre Council car parks have now achieved 'ParkMark' Safer Parking Award status. These awards are granted to car parks where their design, security facilities and management have created a safe parking environment where opportunities for crime have been minimised.
