Middlesbrough’s unmissable Christmas line up includes Christmas markets and festive performances, a Reindeer Parade and spectacular Lights Switch On, eating out, fabulous shopping and more.
On December 1, Centre Square is the place to be as Middlesbrough’s Christmas Lights Switch On and Reindeer Parade combine for a most magical celebration. Enjoy a glittering procession of Fire and Ice for all the family through Middlesbrough town centre.
The Reindeer Parade leaves Middlesbrough Town Hall at 3.30pm. Entertainment in Centre Square begins at 4.30pm for a 5.20pm lights Switch On. You can meet Santa and his reindeer in Centre Square after the parade until 4:45pm. Road closures and traffic restrictions will be in place for this event so be sure to give yourself plenty of time to get into town. See the map below.
The parade travels through the heart of Middlesbrough providing plenty of excellent viewing points.
Watch out for ice queens, Jack Frost, ice dragons and fire birds, hundreds of children in costume and of course the beautiful Cairngorm Reindeer and Santa himself!
The Reindeer Parade & Community Carnival will be followed by the traditional Christmas Lights Switch On, new to Centre Square presented in association with Dominos Pizza Middlesbrough. Capital FM are your hosts for a fun-filled evening that promises plenty of family entertainment. The Reindeer Parade leaves Middlesbrough Town Hall at 3.30pm. Workshops have been organised for members of the public to work with professional carnival artists on three Saturdays through November.
The sessions, held at Middlesbrough Town Hall, are open to anyone over five years of age, though children must be accompanied by an adult.
Anyone wanting to take part must be able to attend all three sessions, on Saturday, November 2, 9 and 16 from 10am-noon and the Reindeer Parade on Sunday December 1 at 3.30pm.

No tickets are required. Come on down to get a keepsake photo taken! Later you can download the photo to wish friends and family a Merry Christmas, by sharing on email, Facebook and Twitter. Plus, their Christmas helpers will be serving chilled Coke and Diet Coke to the sounds of seasonal music.

This year’s panto at Middlesbrough Theatre is everybody’s favourite fairy story Sleeping Beauty.
