Reindeer Parade & Lights Switch On

On December 1, Centre Square is the place to be as Middlesbrough’s Christmas Lights Switch On and Reindeer Parade combine for a most magical celebration. Enjoy a glittering procession of Fire and Ice for all the family through Middlesbrough town centre. 

The Reindeer Parade leaves Middlesbrough Town Hall at 3.30pm. Entertainment in Centre Square begins at 4.30pm for a 5.20pm lights Switch On. You can meet Santa and his reindeer in Centre Square after the parade until 4:45pm. Road closures and traffic restrictions will be in place for this event so be sure to give yourself plenty of time to get into town. See the map below. 

The parade travels through the heart of Middlesbrough providing plenty of excellent viewing points.

Watch out for ice queens, Jack Frost, ice dragons and fire birds, hundreds of children in costume and of course the beautiful Cairngorm Reindeer and Santa himself!

The Reindeer Parade & Community Carnival will be followed by the traditional Christmas Lights Switch On, new to Centre Square presented in association with Dominos Pizza Middlesbrough. Capital FM are your hosts for a fun-filled evening that promises plenty of family entertainment. The Reindeer Parade leaves Middlesbrough Town Hall at 3.30pm. How to take part in the parade

Reindeer ParadeWorkshops have been organised for members of the public to work with professional carnival artists on three Saturdays through November.

The sessions, held at Middlesbrough Town Hall, are open to anyone over five years of age, though children must be accompanied by an adult.

Anyone wanting to take part must be able to attend all three sessions, on Saturday, November 2, 9 and 16 from 10am-noon and the Reindeer Parade on Sunday December 1 at 3.30pm.

Santa's Elves competition

Santa and his elvesWould you like to ride with Santa on his sleigh? We are looking for a little boy and a little girl [aged 10 years or under] who would like to dress as one of Santa’s elves.

The lucky winners will each win a family ticket to The Gruffalo at Middlesbrough Town Hall on 29 December £55 value, and get to ride in Santa’s sleigh, priceless!

The Holidays are coming with the Coca-Cola Truck

Coca Cola Truck tour in MiddlesbroughCoca-Cola has a rich history of sharing happiness at Christmas – We're excited the Coca-Cola truck will be in Centre Square from 12noon until 8pm on December 1st.

No tickets are required. Come on down to get a keepsake photo taken! Later you can download the photo to wish friends and family a Merry Christmas, by sharing on email, Facebook and Twitter. Plus, their Christmas helpers will be serving chilled Coke and Diet Coke to the sounds of seasonal music.

A day of Christmas at mima

Join mima on the same day as the Middlesbrough reindeer parade and light switch on for a fabulous Christmas market and workshops.

mima Christmas Market 12 noon - 5.30pm

Unique stalls selling homemade christmas crafts, jewellery, homewares, gifts, cards, food and drink, as well as jewellery and gift-wrap workshops. The perfect place to pick up something different. FREE.

Santa Day and the Baker Street Christmas Carnival

Santa DayAll of Middlesbrough is encouraged to dress as Santa on November 30, whether shopping in town or at the Boro v Bolton match at the Riverside.

Around noon you may spot the Boundary 500 Annual Santa Motorcycle Ride about town in aid of Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice.

While you're in town pop in to the first ever Baker Street Christmas Carnival!

There will be live music, dj, fashion shows, a vintage-style moon booth, Peppa Pig, facepainting and funfair for the kids and more! 

Perfect way to get in the mood for the following day for the Reindeer Parade and Lights Switch On. See above!


Winter Wonderland & Skating Rink

Winter Wonderland in Centre Square

Skating comes to Centre Square this year. Pick up your skates and a warming beverage and enjoy the mini-skating rink in Centre Square.

Charges apply. Skating from £3.95.

Open from 11am. Saturday 30 November - Friday 27 December. Closed Christmas Day.

This year’s panto at Middlesbrough Theatre is everybody’s favourite fairy story Sleeping Beauty.

Leading the cast this year are Kim Hartman as the Wicked Fairy Carabosse and Vicki Michelle as the Lilac Fairy. Kim and Vicki are of course best remembered for their roles in the hit television series ‘Allo ‘Allo.
