Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art (mima) launches its autumn season with Idea Home Show, to contribute to the urgent debate about the future of housing. 

A Room of Our Own looks at the home as a political site and demonstrates what artists can do to contribute to making useful and enjoyable living spaces

Assemble, Granby Worksop: Products and Processes encompasses a body of works from the social enterprise Granby Workshop, developed by Assemble and local people. The project grew from years of resident-led re-building in the Taxteth area of Liverpool with has faced decades of turmoil and dereliction.

The Housing Question explores social issues relating to housing across the twentieth century and in the present. It features art, text, film, printed matter and archive materials associated with living conditions, architecture, urban spaces and capitalism. 

Untitled (City Plan) features architecture, territory and landscape works from the Middlesbrough Collection. 


mima's new season launches Saturday 21 October and runs until 18 February 2018

Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art, mima is one of the UK's leading galleries for modern and contemporary art and craft. The landmark building designed by Erick van Egeraat Architects is situated in the heart of Middlesbrough. mima opened to international critical acclaim in January 2007.

Hosting temporary exhibitions of fine art and craft from 1900 to the present, mima showcases work by internationally acclaimed artists. The programme includes painting, drawing, ceramics, jewellery, sound, film, mixed media, photography and sculpture.

The gallery brings together the town's art collections for the first time, from Middlesbrough Art Gallery and Cleveland Craft Centre. Selected works from the collection are showcased in an annual collection show.

Exhibitions change throughout the year and admission is free.
