The brilliant team who put together Local History Month each May have been working harder than ever to bring you this year’s programme, and what a programme it is! Due to the current situation the calendar looks slightly different to usual as all events and activities are taking place online via Discover Middlesbrough’s Facebook page.
There’s loads happening throughout the month including talks and videos which all relate to Middlesbrough’s fascinating heritage.
Local historian Ian Stubbs has collated stories of our town’s own war heroes, Kingsley Chapman and Gordon Dalton will be leading talks and discussions on art, plus there’s a discussion on St. Hilda’s – Middlesbrough’s original ‘old town’. We’re really looking forward to the virtual tour of William Lane Foundry too. As Middlesbrough’s last remaining working foundry it has survived two World Wars, and is now fighting the Covid-19 battle as its staff produce parts for NHS ventilators.
Plus there are lots of pictures of ‘Middlesbrough past’ and historic footage from Teesside Archives.
So please do join in from home, and we hope you enjoy finding out more about the history of our town and share what you’ve learnt with your family and friends.
You can download the Local History Month 2020 activity calendar here which has a run down of all activities. Remember everything in the calendar will be shared at the times stated on this Facebook page.
