Middlesbrough Mela, back for its 29th year, brings communities together to celebrate the brilliantly diverse cultures within our town on August 17-18 from 12 noon to 7pm in Albert Park.

The festival offers a vibrant celebration of high profile South Asian artists, home grown talent, dance acts and family favourites. Festival goers will also be treated to an array of mouth-watering food stalls showcasing a whole host of cuisines from across the globe. Unearth a treasure trove of fabrics, jewellery and creative gifts in the bazaar, take in a circus performance or seek out a thrill at the fun fair!

We kick off our Mela weekend on Saturday with an epic opening parade featuring a diverse mix of music, dance, colourful costumes and circus performers to life size puppets and jammin’ beats.

The theme for the parade is Routes to Roots exploring journeys and settlement using nature. Extravagant and vibrant parade costumes and structures will be in the form of nature, animals and insects.

Throughout the day get crafty and take part in one of our Melariffic workshops. We have it all from dancing, drumming, arts and so much more.

The brilliant Circus Raj will be delighting crowds with their daredevil antics, amazing acrobatics and death-defying knife tricks. This is definitely one not to try at home!

Sunday will play host to the CBeebie’s mega star Mr Bloom as he takes to the stage with his fun-filled one man show, sure to be a firm favourite for all the family.

Don't miss the Alternative Stage across the weekend celebrating local and emerging artists including Jay Moussa, Motherland, Nel Unlit, Travis Shaw and Orange Pip Market's favourite dancer, Salsa Sam.

The Main Stage has an incredible weekend line-up with acts such as Leddie MC, Komparrison and Navin Kundra. Award winning Dutch-Pakistani singer songwriter Imran Khan will headline with his epic hits and electric performance style.

Check out the Mela Facebook page for the full weekend line up and to stay up to date with more Mela news and announcements.
